The Letter Identification Test (LIDT) tests a person’s letter identification knowledge.

In order to be able to read a word correctly, we need to be able to recognize every single letter. For example, we need to know that d, and D are different ways of referring to the same identity of the letter ‘d’. The LIDT evaluates which letter identities a person knows.

The LIDT is a simple matching task and is composed of 29 items. This test can be administered to a group or individual students.

At the end of the test, the tester gets an overview of the reader’s ability to match upper and lower case letters. The tester may then decide to train the ability to identify single letters.
