Google penalised for privacy breach, fined USD 22.5 million

Nov 18, 2012: Google Inc. was penalised for a privacy breach and fined USD 22.5 million by a federal court in US. The case against Google was that the Web surfers who were using Safari browser were made to believe that their online activities would not be tracked if they didn’t change the privacy settings. It was later found that users who were using Safari browser, their online activities were tracked by Google by inserting a computer coding. This was a clear violation of the privacy assurances that were given to Safari users and misleading of people by Google.
