Before I start scribbling, I pay my heartfelt homage to the veteran Dr Varghese Kurien, the man who created the vibrant brand Amul, the man who showed the world what Indians are capable to achieve from scrap and the man who loved himself the most……Sir, You are truly inspiring and a true Indian in all sense. Salute You…

For the first time in the history since 1964, Amul girl is seen weeping in an advertisement paying homage to the Veteran Dr Varghese Kurien who created the mascot. The Amul girl who is usually seen in red dotted frock with smiling face was seen wearing a traditional dress weeping and saluting along with two ladies. The ad clearly reflected the big void we feel with Dr. V.Kurien’s demise.

“ Thank You for giving us Hausla, Pragati and Anand……..Dr V.Kurien (1912-2012)” weeped Amul mascot.

The homage ad was released by Amul’s advertising agency DaCunah communications in the official site of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation ( GCMMF).

Dr Verghese Kurien, the Father of white revolution in India was the man behind the brand and product Amul. It was he who transformed a milk deficient India to the largest producer of milk in the world. Way back in 1950 he laid the foundation of white revolution in India by organizing the milk cooperative society in Gujarat to produce milk products to distribute across the state. The rest is history…he went on replicating the success that he achieved in Gujarat nationwide with help of National Dairy Development Board(NDDB).

Dr.V.Kurien started the Amul ad campaign in 1964-65 and is said that the creative team was given the full freedom and he did not indulge in any of their creative initiatives….and it resulted in one of the longest running ad campaigns in the Indian advertising world. Amul girl has been with us since 1965. For more than 65 years, it’s the same DaCunah communication that handles the campaign for Amul…..their effort and belief on our Father of White Revolution really paid them well off!!

Like once he told, “When you have a good product and good advertising, then it will sell itself”.  This is so true when it comes to Amul and Amul girl…
